Health Diagnostics

Health Diagnostics is a Chester-based, multiple award-winning digital health company that’s passionate about driving advances in population health and wellbeing. Its offering sits right at the nexus of today’s 3 NHS priorities: Data, Prevention and Community-based care (i.e. non-hospital). The firm was founded by managing director, Julie Evason, who started her career by launching non-invasive health check technology in the 1980s. In terms of the drive for innovation, she hasn't stopped since.

The company’s digital modules are used to target at-risk, hard-to-reach populations, with a key focus on prevention of cardiovascular disease - the leading cause of death worldwide. Likewise, its intuitive systems use motivational techniques which are proven to yield material improvements in people’s lifestyles and health outcomes. By thinking outside the box, working closely with partners to make tailored programmes, and being innovative in its approach, positive change is taking place around the nation..

The company is known for award-nominated work with councils around the UK to deliver the NHS Health Check programme - one of the only programmes of its kind in aiming to tackle health inequalities. Evidence for the Programme’s efficacy is well-established, and continues to emerge. Additionally, Health Diagnostics provides workplace health checks, which are increasingly relied upon to maintain healthy workforces in today’s pressured environments.

Strategic Communications to Elevate Impact

Our managing director, Hannah, first worked with the firm in 2013, when responsibility for public health moved away from the NHS to local authorities. Since then, our team has continued to combine our communication skills with an in-depth understanding of the complex healthcare stakeholder landscape to amplify HD's work .

The wide-ranging PR activities we lead include production of media case studies, award submissions, blogs, and provision of social media strategy - including content which is helping earn well-deserved recognition for this team of passionate experts in their field. This 360 degree approach ensures Health Diagnostics’ pioneering digital tools for NHS Health Checks and other programs are publicised, capturing the attention of important decision-makers and key audiences.

Maximising Opportunities, Communicating with Passion

We constantly ensure the company’s achievements are maximised via its communications, and that the leadership team is given the opportunity to reach important audiences - through all available channels, and with key messages eloquently conveyed. These include people in governmental roles, as well as NHS leaders and people working on the ground to tackle today’s major preventable health issues such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, lung cancer and mental health conditions.

In late 2024, Julie Evason was invited to Whitehall for a breakfast roundtable hosted by Secretary of State for Business & Trade, Jonathan Reynolds MP. Along with seven other SME leaders, she was able to convey and discuss relevant challenges and opportunities at play in today’s business landscape. As she explains, “This event came after the pivotal moment in October when Wes Streeting announced a new, three-pronged focus for the NHS: prevention, digital, and a move from hospital to community care. All three are areas where our company has pushed innovation, over 20 years.”

We provided all-round support, helping prepare questions and talking points to ensure her ideas were conveyed succinctly. This resulted in new relationships, collaborations and, importantly, dialogue. You can read more about the roundtable via this blog, including Julie’s expert views on health promotion.

Just weeks later, Julie was invited to 10 Downing Street with 50 other SME leaders to be thanked for their contribution to the UK economy. Prime Minister Keir Starmer described SMEs as ‘The beating heart of the UK economy’. We captured Julie’s thoughts on film straight afterwards, when she reflected, “To keep the SMEs ‘beating’, we must prioritise the health and wellbeing of employees. Our work with NHS Health Checks and workplace health initiatives helps people stay healthier for longer, enabling them to thrive both professionally and personally.” Read more about the visit via another blog which touches further on the vital link between workforce wellbeing and economic prosperity.

As advocates of health prevention here at Curious PR, we feel privileged to help put this company on the map as a go-to team to drive positive change for population health, especially considering they have the ‘systems of choice’ for NHS and private providers. We are also proud of their achievements in the prestigious HTN Primary Care Awards in 2025, where they were finalists for their impressive health prevention work with Merton Health.

Likewise, we were delighted to see them ‘highly commended’ at the HTN - Health Tech News 2025/26 in collaboration with Durham County Council. Together, their teams were shortlisted in the ‘Healthcare improvement and operations transformation’ category for work involving the Durham Health Squad.

The Health Squad initiative focuses on people at greatest risk of poor health outcomes, and who face significant adversity, for instance those experiencing homelessness or substance misuse, veterans, migrants and members of the travelling community. Traditionally, these groups have struggled to access standard NHS Health Checks, and were often not receiving care or seeing a GP. Our client’s Health Options® digital platform was used to power mobile outreach and target effectively, helping bridge this gap with impressive results: 91% of people engaged received a full health check assessment; 68% were referred for identified risk factors such as high cholesterol or blood pressure; 61% of individuals achieved their personal health goals within 6 months.

Additionally, we were thrilled to see Health Diagnostics be a FINALIST for the 'Most Impactful Partnership in Population Health' at the HSJ Partnership Awards 2025. The recognition highlights its collaborative work with the Public Health team at Medway Council aimed at strengthening health prevention at scale. Since 2017, the partnership has reshaped how NHS Health Checks and community-based prevention are delivered in Medway, Kent. By combining Medway’s public health ambition with its digital platform, the programme has improved access to the checks, enhanced data quality, and supported earlier identification of health risks. The judges were impressed by being able to streamline invitation and follow-up processes through fully integrated, real-time data systems. Likewise to see health checks expand into workplaces, community settings and mobile units, helping ensure services reach underserved populations. Community initiatives such as 'Measure Your Pressure Month’ saw completion of over 1,500 BP checks and identifed 300+ individuals as needing follow-up (over half being from the most deprived communities).

Such nominations demonstrate what can be achieved when public health teams, clinicians and digital partners collaborate to turn data into meaningful action for local communities.
